Wilson named AAC Defensive Player of the Week | Catch My Job

Jireh Wilson

GREENVILLE, NC – Junior safety Jireh Wilson was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league Monday morning.

Wilson was a key cog in the Pirates’ defensive effort that kept UCF’s high-powered offense at bay in a 34-13 victory over the Knights on Saturday at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. He recorded his second interception of the season in the first quarter before recovering a fumble that short-circuited UCF’s potential kickoff in the second stanza. Wilson also recorded three tackles (one solo) for good measure.

In addition, the senior quarterback Holton Ahlers was named to the weekly conference honor roll after passing for 311 yards and completing 30 of 36 attempts. He threw his 87th career touchdown to pass Shane Carden as East Carolina’s career leader while adding a rushing score to his ledger. Ahlers also received Manning’s Star of the Week award for his performance.
