VVU’s Strav was named the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week | Catch My Job

MORGANTOWN, Va. – West Virginia University freshman Oliver Stave was named the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in last Saturday’s game at Texas Tech.

Straw, a resident of Melbourne, Australia, punted five times for an average of 46.6 yards per punt against the Red Raiders. He punted one inside the 20, had a touchback and had two others that resulted in a good catch. His longest punt of the afternoon was 63 yards in the fourth quarter. He also sank a 54-yarder.

For the season, Stav is averaging 41.6 yards per punt and has placed seven of his 21 punts inside the 20.

He joins a VVU Big 12 honor roll that also includes running back Tony Mathis Jr. and Casey Legg (Baylor) and CJ Donaldson (Pitt).

West Virginia hosts No. 7 TCU this Saturday afternoon at Milan Puskar Stadium. The undefeated Horned Frogs (7-0, 4-0) are coming off an impressive 38-28 win over 17th– ranked Kansas State last Saturday night in Fort Worth.

TCU has come back from double-digit deficits in its last two wins at Kansas State and Oklahoma State.
