Two by-election races in Toronto — University-Rosedale and York South-Weston — appeared to be decided by a razor’s edge Monday.
The City of Toronto is scheduled to confirm unofficial election results on Tuesday, with official results to be announced later this week.
With all the polls, here’s how it stands:
At Rosedale University, Diane Sachs appears to have narrowly defeated Norma Di Pasquale.
At York South-Weston, the present earl. Frances Nunciata appears to have beaten Chiara Padovani by an even smaller margin.
CBC Toronto will be monitoring the situation in both departments on Tuesday.
In the western part of the city, count. Gord Perks held on to beat challengers Chemi Lhamo and Siri Agrell in Parkdale-High Park.
Meanwhile, the fifth time was the charm for Alejandra Bravo.
She won the race to replace outgoing Coun. Anna Bailao in Davenport by more than 13,000 votes in her fifth run for political office. Bravo previously ran three times for the seat and once federally for the New Democratic Party, losing each time by only hundreds of votes.
Malik beats out crowded field in Spadina-Fort York
Ausma Malik, who has served on the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) since 2014, emerged victorious over her closest challenger April Engelberg in Spadina-Fort York. Malik was endorsed by advocacy group Progress Toronto, a registered third party in this election, as one of its “progressive champions.”
Chris Moyes was elected in Toronto-Centre, defeating challenger Nikki Ward. Moyes ran for the council in 2018, but withdrew from the race after Premier Doug Ford reduced the size of the council from 47 to 25 wards mid-campaign. Instead of running against his friend Christine Wong-Tam in Ward 13, Toronto Centre, he successfully campaigned for re-election as TDSB Trustee.
In other races, former alderman John Burnside was elected in Don Valley East.
Incumbents Brad Bradford, Jay Robinson, Paula Fletcher, Josh Matlow and Mike Cole were re-elected to Beaches-East York, Don Valley West, Toronto-St. Paul’s, Toronto-Danforth and Eglinton-Lawrence, respectively.
