Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his Twitter account to congratulate Team India. He said it was a well-fought victory and also praised Kohli for his “remarkable tenacity”. The Prime Minister ended his tweet by wishing him luck in the upcoming matches.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in a tweet that the victory heralded the start of Diwali. Shah also hailed Kohli’s performance. “A perfect way to start the T20 World Cup. Diwali begins. What a great innings by @imVKohlija. Congratulations to the entire team,” Shah’s tweet reads.

On the other hand, Congress president Rahul Gandhi termed the thriller match as one of the biggest victories under pressure. “What a thriller of a match against Pakistan!” One of the biggest wins under pressure. Well done #TeamIndia, good luck in the matches ahead,” he tweeted.

Bollywood Pours Love
After the historic win, several Bollywood stars took to their social media to congratulate the team and praised Kohli’s masterstroke.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan took to his Twitter account to express his joy over the win. He said that it was really good to see a great game of cricket and it was a wonderful feeling to see India win. King Khan said it was inspiring to see Kohli crying and laughing, especially with the song ‘Chak de India’ playing in the background. He said that Happy Diwali is starting right now.

Meanwhile, actress Anushka Sharma posted an emotional note dedicated to her husband on her Instagram account. “You beauty!! Damn beauty!! You brought so much joy into people’s lives tonight and that’s on the eve of Diwali!” Sharma started her fast.

The actress said that she is proud of Kohli and that his strength is contagious and limitless.

Meanwhile, reacting to the stunning win, Kohli said that the innings from Sunday’s match was his best in the format, even after his Mohali knock against Australia in 2016. “Until today, Mohali was my best innings against Australia. I will count this one more today. Hardik kept pushing me. The audience was phenomenal. You guys (fans) have supported me and I am grateful for your support,” Kohli said.
