Statement by President Biden on the violent confrontation in Iran | Catch My Job

I remain gravely concerned by reports of an intensification of the violent crackdown on peaceful protesters in Iran, including students and women, who are demanding their equal rights and basic human dignity. They call for the just and universal principles on which the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are based. For decades, the Iranian regime denied basic freedoms to its people and suppressed the aspirations of successive generations through intimidation, coercion and violence. The United States stands with Iranian women and all citizens of Iran who inspire the world with their courage.

The United States is making it easier for Iranians to access the Internet, including allowing greater access to secure, external platforms and services. The United States also holds Iranian officials and entities, such as the Morality Police, responsible for using violence to suppress civil society. This week, the United States will impose additional costs on perpetrators of violence against peaceful protesters. We will continue to hold Iranian officials accountable and support the rights of Iranians to protest freely.
