DENVER – The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced that freshman Monday Rieger Lorenz of the Denver Pioneers hockey team was named the NCHC Rookie of the Week.

Lorenz had two points (one goal, one assist), four shots and was a plus-2 in two games last weekend as the Pioneers won a non-conference series against then-No. 11 Providence College. He opened the scoring in Friday’s 4-1 win by scoring his first goal together and then providing the assist for the win Jack Devine’s overtime score in Saturday’s 3-2 win.

The Calgary, Alberta native has recorded three points (one goal, two assists) in six games since making his NCAA debut on Oct. 7 against Notre Dame.

This is the first conference weekly award of Lorenz’s career and the first of the season for the Pioneers.

St. Cloud State’s Grant Cruickshank was named the NCHC Forward of the Week, while Western Michigan defenseman Cedric Fiedler and goalie Cameron Rowe picked up honors at their respective positions. Denver’s Massimo Rizzo (Forward), Shai Buium (advocate) and Magnus Chrona (goalkeeper) were also finalists for this week’s conference awards.

UP NEXT: The Pioneers open NCHC play this weekend as they travel to Oxford, Ohio to take on the Miami RedHawks on Friday at 5:00 PM MT and Saturday at 3:00 PM MT. Both games will be broadcast on NCHC.tv.
