The Sudbury & Districts Public Health Board of Health is delighted to welcome Dr Imran Adrian Khan to his first day as a Public Health Officer. He will become the agency’s Assistant Medical Officer of Health (AMOH) when the Minister of Health approves the appointment, which was made by the Board at its meeting on 16 June 2022.
“We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Khan and look forward to his great contributions to promoting and protecting health in Sudbury and Manitoulin Counties,” said Rene Lapierre, Board of Health Chair. “As Associate Medical Officer of Health, he will bring a lot of expertise and additional medical capacity to the public health team,” Lapierre said.
“Dr. Khan trained at NOSM University, and he is another example of how northern training benefits northerners and our local health system. He is no stranger to public health in Sudbury & Districts, having completed many of his educational experiences with us. We are excited to officially welcome him on board and know he will be a tremendous asset to our team and our program, including engagement with health care providers in the region,” said Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, Sudbury & District Public Health Medical Officer and Chief executive director officer.
Dr. Kahn will work under the direction of Dr. Penny Sutcliffe to fulfill the public health mandate and promote healthy communities. When his appointment as Assistant Medical Officer of Health and a half is approved Law on the Protection and Promotion of HealthDr. Khan will assist in the duties of the Medical Officer of Health and be empowered to exercise the powers of the Medical Officer of Health.
“Having completed my training in public health and preventive medicine in Northern Ontario, I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to stay here with my family and contribute to the public health team and community,” said Dr. Imran Khan, Sudbury and District Public Health medical officer of health.
In addition to a Fellowship in Public Health and Preventive Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Dr. Khan holds a Bachelor of Medicine, a Bachelor of Surgery from the University of the West Indies, and a Master of Public Health from the University of Waterloo.
