Nov. 17 — A new Southern fast food joint opened near the town center this week.

Cozy Coop, which serves fried chicken, ribs and southern sides, opened Tuesday. The restaurant is on Barrett Creek Boulevard, just off Barrett Parkway, near Interstate 575.

The new restaurant is the brainchild of cousins Mike Madonna and Ricky Navas.

Madonna, who owns a restaurant, said he has always wanted to make better fried chicken than national brands like Popeye’s and KFC.

Navas said Crazy Coop will use better ingredients and methods to do that.

“We use all-natural chicken,” Navas told the Journal. “A lot of places use a pickle to make it juicy, but we know how to cook it properly.”

Navas is a Georgia native whose chef credits include Atlanta restaurants such as Storico Fresco, Paces & Vine, and Murphy’s. He said the store’s suburban location feels like a return to his old stomping grounds, Alpharetta and Kennesaw.

Every meal at Cozy Coop comes with cornbread and one of their southern sides – mac and cheese, collard greens, candied yams, crispy okra, french fries or coleslaw.

The menu also includes large family meals.

“When you come to Cozy Coop, you’re going to walk out with a big plate of chicken and ribs that everyone can share. It creates a more communal experience,” Madonna said in a news release announcing the opening of the store.

Located at 2500 Barrett Creek Blvd. in Marietta, Cozy Coop offers dine-in, take-out, and drive-thru options. It is open every day from 10:30 am to 10 pm
