NDMC to check whether non-veg food is served near shrines | Catch My Job

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Wednesday said it would conduct a survey to find out if there are any restaurants serving non-vegetarian food items near religious places in areas under its jurisdiction.

The move came after the NDMC council meeting earlier in the day.

In a press briefing, the vice-chairman of the civic body, Satish Upadhyay (BJP), said that during a visit he found some restaurants serving non-vegetarian food near a wall attached to the temple. recent with Tirupati Balaji Temple in Udhyan Marg.

“I have expressed my displeasure over the sale of non-vegetarian food near the temple wall. It is very unacceptable and we will not tolerate such activities,” said Mr Upadhyay.

A senior NDMC official confirmed that they have received a request to conduct a survey to check whether such restaurants are operating near temples and eventually come up with a plan to relocate them.

Last month, a controversy erupted after the then Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, Mukesh Suryan, wrote a letter to the Commissioner of the civic body seeking a ban on the sale of meat during the nine-day festival of Navratri.

Although Mr.’s request was not implemented Suryan, meat shop owners in the city were confused due to rumors of a ban by the municipal authorities. Many meat sellers had left their stock fearing repercussions.

A nod to Ayushman Bharat

In the council meeting, the NDMC gave in-principle approval to implement the central government’s Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana in areas under the municipal body.

The scheme, launched in 2018, aims to provide annual health insurance – for secondary and tertiary care in hospital – of ₹ 5 lakh per family.

NDMC member Kuljeet Chahal (BJP) said that the Delhi government had neither implemented the plan nor presented any alternative plan for the people of the city.

According to a brief summary shared by members of the civic body, the Ayushman Bharat scheme is covered for seven medical specialties, including general surgery, ENT and ophthalmology.

Hitting out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Mr Chahal said he attended the NDMC meeting on Wednesday in fear of losing his membership of the civic body. Mr. Kejriwal had attended four previous meetings of the council, he said.

The civic body also approved an amendment in the NDMC Act regarding enhancement of the penalty charges against malaria offenders and activities to prevent and control the breeding of other mosquito-borne diseases.
