For the third time in six years, the Houston Astros face the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series. And all that excitement and excitement is sure to create a desire for anyone who attends the games in person.
All of these restaurants and bars are just minutes away, walking and/or driving, from Minute Maid Park. While you can certainly eat at the stadium, few things are more rewarding than not spending money on hot dogs and puffy nachos.
Some of these spots are Houston favorites and longtime fixtures in the neighborhood.

Dining hall at El Tiempo on Navigation

Ninfa is across the street, but you know what? I like El Tiempo better. The Tex-Mex restaurant has amazing fajitas, tableside queso flameado and a bevy of margaritas. There are plenty of TVs around in case you want to stay in and watch the game (or post-game coverage). Also, these margaritas are exempt from the stadium price increase.

The Italian restaurant happens to be the casual cousin of the fine dining Potente. It’s also owned by Astros owner Jim Crane, so if you’re a fan of giving the man money twice, there’s no better place. The restaurant has a menu of pizzas, pastas and other main courses to satisfy hungry fans.

Goi vit, duck salad, in Huynh
Mayra Beltran/Houston ChronicleHyunh Restaurant
It’s been more than a decade since Hyunh first opened in Old Chinatown. The restaurant has received plenty of praise since then, even getting a place on our Top 100. If you’re craving homemade Vietnamese food, you can’t do much better than BYOB Hyunh. The duck salad first course is in a class of its own.

The Patriot

The restaurant/bar/music venue opened its first Houston location in Downtown. Like its Uptown sibling, The Rustic serves beer, food and live music in a large space with an impressive patio. This might be your default choice of places to go regardless of whether the Astros are playing.
