The famous Higginson Round Barn south of Vankleek Hill was a crowded place late last week. Because the winners of the online auction at the beginning of the week visited the website to pick up the items.
Several items from the old barn and the adjacent large farmhouse were sold. The property included a round barn and a farmhouse. It was sold to local Lyman Howes.
The Higginson Round Barn – located on County Road 34, about halfway between Vankleek Hill and Hawkesbury – was designed and built by Thomas Tweed Higginson between 1893 and 1894. The round barn was considered a technological innovation at the time. Designed to facilitate feeding animals from above It is one of the few round barns left in Canada.
