After nearly 60 years in business, a marine supply company closed the sale of its assets in an online auction.
Grand Valley Marine, 3711 28th St. SW in Grandville, said this week it was closing its doors. Online auctions will be held for inventory sales from 8am-6pm Oct 18 at orbitbid.com.
Orbitbid said the shutdown occurred because of the owner’s retirement.
John Noel Sr. started the company in 1964 with its Grandville location selling a wide range of boats, snowmobiles and sporting goods. Grand Valley Marine eventually expanded to locations in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Benton Harbor, Nunica. , Grand Haven and Muskegon
However, in the 1980s the Grand Valley Marine was scaled back to locations in Grandville and Torch Lake.
Sales of ships and marine products in the United States hit a 13-year high in 2020, according to the National Association of Marine Manufacturers, with $47 billion in sales, an increase of 9% compared to 2019. Rapidly and global supply chain problems cause bottlenecks.
Currently, due to the closure of the Grand Valley Marine’s Grandville location, the store will sell the property in a one-day online auction, employing the Byron Center’s OrbitBid for convenience.
