The Kerala High Court recently stayed the order passed by the Ernakulam State Magistrate’s Court on the release of various curiosities of notorious fake antiquities dealer Monson Mavunkal.

The lawyers representing Mavunkal in front of the bench Justice Ziyad Rahman AA argued that despite being a party to the proceedings before the Additional CJM, he was not served and that the Court passed the below order under Section 451 Cr.PC without hearing him. The petitioner was a Advocates MG Sreejith, M. Vidyajith, P. Jaya, and Luke J. Chirayil.

Mavunkal hit the headlines after his antiquities collection scam was busted by the Criminal Investigations Department after a fraud complaint was filed against him. Mavunkal is allegedly involved in various crimes, including three rape cases.

In its September 23 order, the Court noted that Mavunkal’s application to the Court for the release of the following articles is also pending.

He said the publication of the articles in favor of the defendant would be temporarily suspended “unless the same has already been published” in favor of the investigating inspector, who is the second defendant in the case.

“This decree will be in effect for one month,” the council said.
