It was great to connect with many of you in person and virtually at Ignite, Microsoft’s annual gathering of developers and IT professionals. While participants acknowledged the business impact of current macroeconomic challenges, they remain committed to maximizing the value of their digital investments by generating economies of scale with the Microsoft Cloud. Doing more with less is more important than ever as organizations navigate uncertainty and shape the future. Cloud-powered technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and machine learning offer organizations unparalleled agility and efficiency, accelerate innovation and make security pervasive, while driving growth and advancing sustainability commitments.
At Ignite, we showed how organizations are helping people use digital opportunities to improve their personal and professional lives: German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz endlessly simulates and refines its vehicle manufacturing processes in the Microsoft Cloud to make its car production 20% more efficient by 2025. To provide greater choice to mutual customers, Cisco and Microsoft provide the ability to run Microsoft Teams natively on Cisco Room and Desk devices. 3M offers its own Hang it up® App in the Teams App Store, allowing users to digitize handwritten notes. Based in Great Britain Haleon enables people who are blind or visually impaired to hear the labels of more than 1,500 consumer health products in the US and UK using Microsoft Seeing AI. With a reimagined global application running on Azure, NBA provides fans with new personalization features such as wall-to-wall content from every NBA game and unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to players and teams. And just last week, a global bank based in Switzerland UBS announced that it will move over 50% of its applications to Azure as its primary cloud platform to further drive the modernization of its global technology estate.

Industry leaders unlock economies of scale with public cloud commitments
An iconic motor racing brand McLaren Automotive is committed to exceptional customer service and uses Azure for its production and development systems, unlocking savings of up to 70% by reserving resources for dedicated use on a one- or three-year basis. Global manufacturer Mars runs approximately 10,000 cloud flows and 4,000 applications and uses the Power Platform to automate processes, including enterprise-wide approvals. A telecommunications company O2 Czech Republic reduces total cost of ownership by 30% for each workload it moves from its on-premises infrastructure to Azure. Manufacturer based in Taiwan Inventec improves manufacturing efficiency with Azure IoT, machine learning and 5G services, saving 50% on deployment time for AI and automated optical inspection application and 25% on maintenance effort. With Power BI, based in Denmark GN has raised the quality of its data by approximately 50% in just three quarters. With the cloud migration journey still underway, the Greece-based energy company HELLENIC PETROLEUM Group has already seen a 30% reduction in IT infrastructure costs after migrating 50% of its workload to Azure. Public Transport Company of Bahrain provides increased accuracy and reliability to its customers while reducing costs by 30% with Azure.

Organizations are reinventing their business for a greener future
Coca-Cola Hellenic embraces the industrial metaverse with HoloLens and Microsoft Mesh to visualize its bottling facilities and gain visibility across production lines. The technology also allows the company to reduce energy consumption based on insight into the operating status of machines and carbon dioxide emissions. Equinor designs products and simulates their effectiveness before implementing them in the physical world. With Microsoft Energi Data Services and Azure, the Norwegian energy company is breaking down data silos to streamline operations for a low-carbon future. German energy company E. ON accelerates the deployment of sustainable district heating and cooling networks by training its models 50% faster with Azure Data Factories and Azure Machine Learning. Telstra wants to help businesses, government and small businesses in Australia accelerate their sustainability progress and business growth through data insights provided by Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability. Based in Canada Electricity generation in Ontario is choosing Azure to modernize its applications and IT infrastructure and ultimately reduce its carbon footprint by accelerating cloud migration and transforming business operations. The company has also joined the CEO Pledge initiative to commit its technology to the Government of Canada’s Computers for Schools Plus program.
AI is the bridge to Re hire people across the physical and digital worlds
Based in Great Britain Barclays uses Microsoft Teams to bring its employees together around the world. Unity works with Microsoft to empower digital creators, 3D artists and developers to build and run real-time 3D experiences on Azure, making it easy to publish on Xbox consoles and PCs to reach the gaming and non-gaming communities which are not played. Nissan chooses HoloLens 2 and Dynamics 365 tutorials to help its operators learn and reduce instructor workload. Based in Luxembourg SES uses Viva Insights to reduce 100,000 meeting hours per year with meeting-free Wednesdays already making 70% of SES employees more productive. ESPN employees take advantage of a virtual community for career development with games and real-time analytics built with SharePoint spaces and the low-code capabilities of the Microsoft Power Platform. Based in Australia Bank of Queensland uses Microsoft Cloud for Financial Services and Microsoft Surface devices to deliver more personalized and intuitive experiences to its customers and bankers.

Digital opportunities enable social inclusion and support education
Based in India SEEDS applies an AI model to generate heat wave risk information for vulnerable communities. Non-profit NVEA creates ways to improve accessible mathematics assessment for students with visual impairments. The Welsh Government hosts multilingual meetings with a language interpretation feature in Microsoft Teams to enable citizen participation. With Azure Cognitive Services, Twitter makes live audio chats accessible to users who are deaf or hard of hearing, and Sweden’s national public television station SVT improves the availability of public news in 21 regions. Blind Veterans UK brings together veterans of all ages for peer-to-peer support with Microsoft Teams, accessible through their mobile devices and landlines. To promote digital equality and facilitate the search for jobs, education and access to health care, Seattle Housing Authority equips residents with Surface Laptop Go devices.

Winning the good fight requires relentless security commitments
The Queensland Department of Education in Australia secured 271,000 devices and servers in just six weeks with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint. Agribusiness and food company Land O’Lakes turns to Microsoft Defender for the Cloud and Microsoft Sentinel as a recipe for multi-cloud protection. With Microsoft Purview, Prince William County School District in the US ensures that confidential information is handled properly and that harmful content is kept away from students. The Office of the Children’s Ombudsman for the State of Michigan improves data integrity and automates processes to more effectively investigate complaints about Michigan’s child welfare system. Based in Brazil Grupo Fleury deploys Microsoft 365 to bring advanced security and compliance controls to the company’s internal communications. FUJIFILM Group presents Microsoft 365 as a global communication foundation for providing security without compromising usability. Microsoft Intune enables a unique experience for more than 10,000 employees in the Group.

Despite economic, social challenges, organizations in various industries continue to adapt to the dynamics of developing markets to meet customer needs.
